The Dreams to Reality Pathway Chapter 1: Managing Your Goals

Goals: Great Outcomes Achieved through Leverage and Strategies

The Importance of Goals

One of the key factors that separate human beings from all other animals is this privilege to co-create our outcomes through deliberate effort. Unlike most other animals that live mainly on instinct and reaction to environmental conditions, human beings possess the ability to determine how they can live and to, a certain extent, influence results by shaping their environment. This ability falls into the realm of choice, where within certain boundaries human beings can make choices about life, including choices of what to pursue and not to pursue as well as how to live their lives. This brings us to the important subject of goal management. The goals are the intermediate steps to your vision. A goal must be a milestone towards your vision

What are goals?

Goals act like specific targets at which to direct focus, effort and resources, leading to a satisfaction and fulfilment when we achieve the targets. Any of the following questions are goal related;

1.???? What do you want to have?

2.???? What do you want to be?

3.???? What do you want to do

4.???? What do you want to get?

5.???? What do you want to achieve?

Answers to these four questions are potential goals because they indicate situations or things that you would be willing to pursue and achieve.

Why We Need to Manage Goals

Managing goals is very important in life for many reasons, among of which are to make the best of life, time and resources we have at our disposal and also to make sure that we live more fulfilled lives. Effective management of goals leads to a better quality of life because we increase our focus on things that are important in our lives and increase the probability of being what we want to be, doing what we want to do and having what we want to have. Managing goals gives us the power and the ability to manage choices, increasing our ability to have a better quality of life in all areas where the discipline of goal setting is practiced. Without managing our goals, we also find ourselves living a life less than we could have lived had we better managed our goals. The resources and choices must be in a way that leads us towards achieving our vision

The Common Problem in Achieving Goals

University of Scranton research suggests that just 8% of people achieve their New Year’s goals. The rest is held prisoner by routine default behavioural patterns that keep them doing the same things they are used to, leading to producing the same results they have been producing and not the results related to their new goals. Even when people are producing terrible and deplorable results, it doesn't mean that they will be pushed to change into new patterns of thinking and behaviour to escape the terrible results. There are many companies and businesses that are under the serious threat of collapse and yet the leaders do not seem moved into the level of action and response that shows that they are fully aware of the full consequences of treating the situation like another business as usual case.? Here are some typical goals we fail to achieve year after year:

1.???? Failing to starting a business, a project or new habits or lifestyle

2.???? Failing to improve our personal, team, organizational, business or economic results

3.???? Failing to raise our levels of performance at personal, team, organizational or economic levels

4.???? Failing to grow our businesses, our economies, our organisations or in other areas of personal life, such as physical fitness, skills, power or abilities

5.???? Failure to achieve some transformation at personal, business, organizational or economic levels

6.???? Failure to attain something or to acquire some tangible or intangible valuable such as attaining a certain academic grade or personal quality.

7.???? Failure to get what you want or to achieve your important but difficult goals

8.???? Failure to optimize our results at personal, organisational, businesses or economic levels

9.???? Failure to turn around a business, organisation, economy or a personal situation

10.? Failure to eliminate a bad habit, or self-sabotaging? patterns of feeling, thinking, motivations and behaviours

11.? Failure to escape the status-quo thinking mode that lock people into their current patterns of thinking and behaviours and hence their same, old, undesirable results.

12.? Failure to open your mind to achieving breakthroughs to the challenges? you may be facing right now

13.? Failure to recognise what is producing the current level of results at personal, business, organisational or economic level, leading to failure to find an accurate solution for changing the situation.

14.? Failure to stop thinking, doing, and feeling in ways that are producing our current undesirable results.

15.? Failure to establish the correct meta-strategy, super-strategy, strategy and micro-strategies to stop the current pattern of undesirable results and to start producing a new pattern of desirable results

16.? Fail to recognise the right set of skills and strategic assets required to achieve our goals

17.? Failure to identify the starting point for producing different results

18.? Failure to recognise the fastest solution to solve our problems and achieve our goals

19.? Failure to motivate ourselves and others for high performance action, for commitment to our goals and for doing strategic, aggressive decisive action towards our goal

20.? Failure to overcome our unconscious fears of failure and for success.

21.? Failure in self-leadership in highly challenging situations and in confronting difficult situations and attacking challenging, complex, high-risk, high-reward goals

22.? Failure to escape the tragedy of mistaken beliefs, including mistaken beliefs in the areas of goal achievement and problem solving.

23.? Failure to escape the illusion of being in control of the situation when we have completely lost control of the situation

24.? Failure to admit when we do not know how to solve a problem or achieve a goal

25.? Failure to escape our own personal mediocrity in areas critical to achieving our goals and overcoming our challenges

26.? Failure to escape the vice of apathy in areas critical to achieving our goals

27.? Failure to brutally access our personal capacity to achieve our goals on our own

28.? Failure to recognise where we need help and to seek that help

29.? Failure to recognise and effectively deal with nonsense when it comes to achieving our goals

30.? Failure to consciously manage our personal results and managing the action we take towards our goals

31.? Failure to take personal responsibility for all our results good or bad

32.? Failure to stop blaming others or the environment for our bad results
