Dreaming on Purpose -- My Book is Here!

Dreaming on Purpose -- My Book is Here!

?? Welcome back! Happy Dreaming + Doing Sunday -- a special edition

Guys, I’m officially a published author ??

I need to start by saying dreams really do come true.?

When I started writing the manuscript for Dreaming on Purpose, I promised to share my truth about leaving corporate America in 2011 to redefine my career checkboxes. This book started as a ‘how to’ manual for your career, but it became so much more along the way. Dreaming on Purpose is a tool for self-discovery, optimism, and liberation. It is a call to action to choose the dreams inside of you instead of the shitty American Dream checklist we’ve been indoctrinated to follow. Dreaming on Purpose is my love letter to the hearts of Black women everywhere who have been battered and bruised by toxic workplaces that never really saw us as human. Dreaming on Purpose is a rallying cry that grind culture is not normal and our dreams matter.?

It’s the book I wish I had when I thought I was crazy for daring to dream for something better.

This book explores a reckoning of what is no longer working for us in our careers and explores entrepreneurship as the pathway to freedom. Dreaming on Purpose is not your typical career book, it will make you slow down and discover creative parts of yourself that you haven’t yet known.?

I’ll be the first to admit, I don’t have it all figured out. I don’t care if that costs me a few followers to say that. I think the problem with the culture of work and careers is that we don’t often see vulnerability discussed in this space. Particularly in the personal development industry, you must present as if you have it all together. Too often, we struggle in silence or keep our dreams inside, waiting for permission to pursue them when, in reality, we are waiting for ourselves.?

It is my hope that by reading this book, we can break free from the box we find ourselves in and define our own dreams.?

Dreaming on Purpose is my invitation for Black women to (re)explore our dreams in the ways that older generations never got the chance to. Inside of us, we each hold the torch that illuminates the pathway forward.?

An excerpt:?

"Our dreams represent an invitation, a starting point for creating change, awakening to something new, and realizing a new reality that does not yet exist. Frequently, our dreams require something of us that we often don’t believe we possess. We tend to brush off our dreams or believe they are impossible because we don’t yet have the tools or the know-how to begin. But that is what’s so special about dreaming. Dreams call us to become a new version of ourselves, and through this, we learn who we really are.

Dreams don’t always come true, at least not in the way we expect them to. However, maybe dreams aren’t so much about acquiring or achieving what we want but about becoming the person we know we can be. Maybe deep down we know what we are truly capable of, even though we convince ourselves otherwise. The whole point of dreaming is to fantasize and imagine making what seems impossible, possible. Our dreams represent the unrestricted and limitless versions of ourselves and what we’re capable of.

Because we fear failure, we tend to put limits around our dreams. We dream—but not too big—injecting some form of ‘realistic’ thinking to make sure our dreams can be contained and measured. We dream safely so that if we fail, we won’t be too disappointed or can prove to ourselves why going after the silly thing was a bad idea anyway.

But if your dreams don’t scare you, you’re not dreaming big enough. When a Black woman decides to go for her dreams and play a bigger game in her own life, it’s like a ripple effect for other Black women in her circle to do the same."

Dreaming on Purpose will hit shelves on August 20th, 2024, and is currently available for preorder.
