Dreaming of Cuba When "enough is enough"

When I visited Cuba, I met many people from Quebec who had been spending their holiday time there for years. What struck me most was how they had formed deep, meaningful connections with the local community. They got to know the staff working at the resorts, were invited into their homes for dinner, and became part of their lives in a way that transcended the typical tourist experience. Each year, they returned with more items to give as gifts for the people they had grown to know and love.
These Quebecers had figured out what was "enough." Enough for themselves to live happily, and enough to share with others. They embraced the richness that comes from giving, from forging relationships, and from understanding that abundance isn’t about how much you have, but about how much you give.
This spirit of giving resonates deeply with those of us who care for children on the Autism Spectrum. Parenting a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) often requires navigating a world of unique challenges, balancing resources, and making sure both the child and the caregiver thrive. Just as those Quebecers found fulfillment in sharing with others, friends and family of ASD parents can share gifts of understanding, support, and thoughtful resources to make a difference.

Thoughtful Gifts for Families Navigating ASD
Why Giving Matters
Gifts, whether they are tangible items or gestures of support, can provide ASD families with tools to navigate their unique challenges and moments of respite to recharge. Just as the Quebec travelers brought joy and practical help to their Cuban friends, your thoughtful contributions can make a lasting impact on families who often give so much of themselves.
This holiday season, let’s embrace the spirit of "enough." Let’s give in ways that enrich not only those we care for but also ourselves, as we create connections and show love through meaningful acts of kindness.
