The dream of the optimist

The dream of the optimist

At the start of 2025, I’ll be moving to the United States! Clients, employees, friends, and family have all asked why we made this decision. Why not move to Spain or another European country, given the ease of our dual nationality? Or why not stay in Colombia, where we could enjoy a much more comfortable lifestyle with our income?

Back in mid-2019, when Alternova officially began, we faced the enormous challenge of breaking into the largest market in the world. By 2020, we had fallen in love with digital health and wellness. Over the last four years, we’ve been building our expertise to become a key player in developing applications for this industry, where the largest market naturally resides in the USA.

But this decision isn’t purely rational—it’s also deeply emotional. It’s driven by the affection and gratitude I feel toward a country that has offered me opportunities I never imagined when I started this journey.

The ambition for the impact we want to achieve as an organization is immense. I’m convinced that our business philosophy is unique, and I’ve found clients, partners, and friends in the USA who resonate with it. The next step in my evolution as a leader at Alternova is to find more people and institutions who share a similar worldview. We want to work for them as providers, or with them as allies or employers.

Over the past five years, we’ve laid the foundation for what could someday be a great company. In the years ahead, we want to be more present in the place where we see the best opportunities to build a portfolio of profitable products and services that can improve the quality of life for those who use them—and, as a result, enhance the lives of those who create them.

My “American Dream” is a dream for those who see potential where others see risk. It’s a dream for those who view the future with optimism, for those who know that while no society is perfect, their actions can create value that transforms into opportunities for everyone who chooses to be part of our purpose. It’s a dream for those who are convinced the world can be better—if only we work toward it a little every day.

That’s the kind of human I want to become. A human who pursues a dream—the dream of the optimist.

The optimistic road is the best choice in life. Welcome to America Ricardo!
