"Dream a Little Dream of Me"

"Dream a Little Dream of Me"

Before giving my class, I was playing golf.?

There was a lot of people.?

One of the well-known personalities was present to play as well, Sam Demma .

It was my turn to pot and made it in one shot!?

I was amazed by my skills and affirmed to the guy next to me that my golfing coaching classes this summer must have paid off!

Knowing that I had a class to give, I couldn’t finish my game.?

We were at the second hole, and I recall being so intentional in the way that I hit the ball.?

Debating internally where to hit it from, and how hard.?

It was also noticeably dark inside which added to the difficulty of the shot.

As I hit my last ball, I could barely see it.?

Finally seeing it rolling back towards me, I rushed to the classroom to prepare to give my class.

When I arrived, the first thing I noticed were the tables being grouped awkwardly.

The design of the learning event was for the tables to be in groups of four.

However, they were all over the place.

On top of that, people were eating at their tables.

It was getting closer to our start time.

The sponsor of the event arrived in the room and made me notice that the group was 34 people!

Knowing we had planned for only 20 people, I was also in shock.

I was so focused on moving tables to their designed setting that I had completely ignored that.

Realizing it, I told myself I’d do the attendance and then ask those who were not on it to please leave and sign up for another session as we didn’t have enough support facilitators present.

Instead, I continued to work on moving tables around and noticed people at the very front of the room facing the wall eating.

At this point, I yelled:

“Alright everyone, you have until 7pm to finish eating! We are going to help you with doggy bags, if needed.”

Instantly regretting what I had said, I thought to myself, “why in the world would I offer to do that for them?”

As I started to give my class, people were still very loud.

I opted for the shaming approach. And asked if people remember being in kindergarten?

Leading with this I went to a few pupils and put my hand on one of the tables saying, “this is not kindergarten”, and continued onto another one and said, “nor elementary school.”

Going back to the front facing the participants, I said, “this is neither, high school, nor university.”

I continued and said, “if you are lucky, you will take part in such a class once more in your life!”

At this point, I had locked eyes with one of the participants, and noticed it was a kid.

I was not in my usual setting teaching adults, I told myself.

At this instance, one girl stood up to challenge me saying, “you seem like you have the answer to everything" and went on to say something else.

Interfering noise was present, someone was cleaning some kind of liquid from the floor with a brown paper and was making scratching noises.

I couldn’t fully comprehend what she was saying.

It was too late anyways; I was already starting to lose a sense of control not to mention my voice from having to speak so loudly.

As I woke up, I realized it was just a dream: “Phew…”

This clearly is not how I would have handled this situation in real life.

My throat was dried out from the air in the bedroom. I stood up and went to the kitchen to check what time it was. It was just 6h45am. I thought to myself. That was so vivid. I have to record it.

I fixed myself some lemon ginger tea with honey, coffee and even a glass of cranberry juice with water and sat down to write my story here.

After sharing the dream with my girlfriend, she asked, “are you nervous about your upcoming session?”

To her question, I replied, “maybe, a little but I am prepared. I’m more excited about it than anything else!”

She then went on and told me, “A few days before I have an important show for my dance school, I have dreams like that of everything going wrong.”

I then told her that I think I had this dream also because I had read a passage from the book Grit by Angela Duckworth before going to bed. The author was telling the story of a guy who went to university in the States. He was looking for an internship during the summertime and found a school to help at. It was a school with kids with difficulties. I think that’s what sparked my memory to create part of the dream I had.

Oh, and not to mention the LinkedIn post I had seen the day before from Sam Demma sharing a video of him talking to kids about the two most important things in life. One, the belief you hold of yourself and two, the choices you make based on those beliefs.

That may be also why I had pulled him from my memory.

Funny dream, right?

Have you dreamed lately of something unusual?

Do you remember it?

Would love to hear about it if it’s the case, if you’re willing to share it, of course.?:)?
