Episode 1. Creating resume.
As you remember from the previous series Olya?took a flip chart sheet, a set of markers, drew a vertical line in the middle, dividing the canvas into two parts, and wrote two tables of contents: SOFT and HARD.?
Having listed all her hard skills in the left column and soft skills in the right column, Olya saw that the list of her competencies is quite solid. And her professional profile goes far beyond one single role. And that was a plus because…
?? NOTE! In business, MULTISHAPED experts have recently been in demand. Those who have knowledge and experience in several areas and have talents to make? changes in different parts of business.
Olya felt better thanks to that but it did not help to improve her chronic self-doubt. Ooops ... we are scared and there is still uncertainty! Noway! Olya, who completed two years of education in psychotherapy in the Transactional Analysis method, knew how to deal with all sorts of internal critics, so she said the following out loud:
“Dear Fear and Uncertainty, of course, it’s not so easy to drive you away, so I let you just stand here nearby, but just shut up, otherwise I’ll drag you with a minecraft sword. I have two, you know. There are important things ahead. So I'll let you just observe in silence.”
?? NOTE! Send the impostor syndrome far far away (especially on your job search), but also watch out for the Dunning-Kruger effect. This balance can and should be maintained.?
Having calmed her inner demons and hung a flipchart sheet on the wall, Olya opened the free CANVA application and found the most attractive resume design. Neutral, shiny and stylish. A resume written in Word can also be beautiful and concise, but why, if there are a bunch of free applications available that allow you to create a really stylish document?
Crafting a resume is an extremely significant thing, and this should be done ONLY after understanding and clearly stating your hard and soft skills. This will make it easier for you to see your strengths (you will certainly be asked about your weaknesses in an interview, so you should not indicate them in your resume), correctly describe your roles in? the companies and give the document modernity and some intrigue.
Olya decided not to look for benchmarks on the Internet, but to go completely into her personal experience and create her own CV from scratch on her own. She was very interested in what would happen and what she was capable of today, at her 41.
Speaking of age…
?? Resume. Dos and DONTs.
DOs
1?? Before sending out your resume, put all your social network profiles in order. And Linkedin - first of all. If you are looking for a job in a well-known international company (and even if not), -? this is the main source of recommendations and business network. Facebook and Instagram are of lesser importance, however, it is also recommended to reflect your professional or near-interests in them.
2?? The structure of the resume should be FROM your current / last place of work and TO the one that you consider significant in your career. Your experience and career development should be obvious. Design and consistency are important. Two pages is the maximum. Take care of the employer - let him feel comfortable to reread it. Impress them with literacy, gracefulness of presentation, even if it seems to you that this is not important. It is.?

3?? Highlight your achievements for 2020 as a separate item! Do not be lazy and think - what have you achieved, for what you are grateful to yourself, what did you achieve during this difficult period? This is useful even from the point of view of correctly formulating and clearly telling the children later! PITCH style wording is our everything today.
4?? A short summary of your professional identity, values you live, what you are an adherent of is also good. I have a Facebook profile header duplicated in my resume.
DONTs
1?? No date of birth, marital status and photo. Do not give the employer a chance to demonstrate ageism, sexism and other sisms. If a recruiter analyzes your resume based on your age, gender, or marital status, you DO NOT need such an employer! If such rude violations of ethics and standards are at the input, then it is better not to imagine what is happening in the internal processes of the company. We don't need it. Persistently, patiently we search further. You are not junk, and you did not find yourself in the trash.
2?? No additional qualities like sociability, multitasking and, for God's sake, stress resistance. Nobody look at this any more. Remember - softs are difficult to measure, so you don't need to write them. The employer will look at your soft skills during testings and interviews. In your summary there should be only a squeeze of your hard skills and specific achievements.
3?? No need to list hundreds of trainings that you have completed in your entire life. The number of trainings doesn't mean anything at all. Throw away all certificates because the main thing is what is left in your head. After all, only the head is the main thing that we have both in interviews and in life.
Well, OK. If they ask about certificates - show them;) In my experience, they never asked.
?? Each resume needs to be customised for a specific company - with a focus on its mission, goals and role! Yes, no one said it would be easy. But this is very important.
Olya was so lucky that at some moment she met a wonderful recruiter who herself edited every comma and checked every word in Olya’s CV for the company they were considering. You may be lucky, but it's better to do it yourself.
Getting a few consultations from a good career consultant, business coach, or a supportive friend who can give you sound advice on your resume is ideal.
And, a thousand times yes - at every moment of life you should have your resume ready and up to date. You never know what offer will come!
Olya has been working on her resume for several weeks and shared some life hacks with you in this article.?
Send Olya a thank you note)))
