As I read through Dottie Herman's blog post "Dreaming Backwards," I couldn't help but feel inspired by her message of starting with the end in mind. The end of the year is always a great time for reflection and setting new goals, both personally and professionally. But what really resonated with me was the idea of pivoting in our careers.
As someone who has gone through a similar journey (and pivoted back into Real Estate), I know firsthand how daunting the idea of pivoting can be. It's scary to leave behind what we know and take a leap into the unknown. But as Dottie so wisely points out, staying in a situation that no longer serves us can be even scarier.

At the end of each year, it's natural to reflect on what changes we want to make in our personal and professional lives. However, it's important to approach this process with a positive, growth-oriented mindset. Rather than focusing on what we don't have or what we haven't achieved, we need to focus on what we want to achieve and how we can get there.
JUST LOOK AT THESE RELEVANT STATISTICS:
For many of us, this involves making a career change. This can be a scary decision, especially if we're unsure about what we want to do or if we're worried about the risks involved. But sometimes, not making a change can be even scarier, especially if we're suffering emotionally or physically from our current situation.
So, how can we approach a career change with a limitless mindset? Firstly, we need to assess where we are and where we want to go. Are we still passionate about our work? Are we being impacted by stress from our job? Do we feel we've outgrown our current position? By answering these questions honestly, we can gain a better understanding of our current situation and what we need to do to move forward.
It's also important to remember that career fulfillment isn't just about following our passions. According to Cal Newport, a scientific researcher, those who "follow their passions" statistically have a lower probability of finding long-term career fulfillment than those who leverage existing career capital when making a shift. This means that we're much better off pivoting into roles that leverage the career capital we've already built up over the years and drawing upon these areas of expertise in new and creative ways.

If we're serious about making a change, we need to ask ourselves why we want to do it, what we hope to achieve, and what the risks and downsides might be. We also need to consider whether we have the skills, contacts, and professional brand to make a successful transition. If we're lacking certain skills, we may need to take classes or gain certifications to become an attractive candidate.
But dreaming backward is about more than just planning. It's about setting short-term goals and becoming relentless at meeting them. It's about giving ourselves daily or weekly tasks so that we know exactly what we need to do to achieve our goals. By completing these tasks, we can gain momentum and confidence, knowing that we're making progress towards our dream.
We also need to build a tribe of people who can support us on our journey. These are the people who will always have our back, who we can turn to for advice and encouragement. By enlisting their help and communicating our goals clearly, we can gain valuable input and support.
But perhaps the most important thing to remember is that change is scary, but it's also necessary. We need to have the courage to pursue our dreams, even when things look scary. As a global CEO with limitless dreams and aspirations, I know that it takes courage to achieve real impact and success. But I also know that it's worth it.
