The dreaded interviewing question - "Have you ever been fired?"

Tough question, but definitely not one that is meant to end the interview or your chances for this new role. Did you know that on average over 50,000 people are laid off or fired each day? The number one reason why people get fired is the same reason they get hired....personality.

It's important during an interview to portray your situation in the best light possible and to be prepared for this question, but be honest! If you were laid off, make sure to make that known. Practice your answer before hand and be concise, a few sentences and then try to move on.

If you were fired because of a personality conflict here are a few ways to answer this question:

1.) "A new manager was brought in and they wanted to take the department in a different direction."

2.) "I enjoyed my work at ____. It's unfortunate that things didn't work out. During this process I have learned how to be successful. I have also taken classes on ___ that will make me outstanding in this role. I am very excited for this opportunity."

3.) "My previous job wasn't working out, so my boss and I agreed that it was time for me to move on to a position that would better suit my talents and skills. Which lead me to your role, would you like to hear more about what I can bring to the table?"

All of these responses are positive and concise. The answer the question on honestly, but show how excited you are to move forward. Remember to practice before the interview so nothing unexpected comes out under pressure.
