As I write this, my year-and-a-half-old son is banging on my office door.?
He tried to open the door with the handle, but found it locked. Knowing I'm in here, he’s frustrated that he can't get in.?
He will remain frustrated until he gets over it and finds something else to do. He’s not getting in.?
Why? Because I have work to do.?
I have a list of 10 specific things that I MUST do every day, things that (as of today) need to be done by me and/or are most effectively done by me (read: Make the most sense time & effort-wise). And I’m in the midst of doing them right now. This article is one of them.?
My son gets in the way of these tasks. So he is literally locked out of the process.?
When he’s old enough, he’ll be employed by me in doing some of this stuff. For now, he’s on the other side of the door, where he shall remain.?
Here’s the big idea: You need to know what your daily must-do’s – not “to-do’s”, but MUST-do’s? – are, and you need to structure your environment such to ensure they get done.?
Every. Day.
This is the structure that produces discipline, consistency and predictability in your work and most importantly, results.?
