  • Drax at Innovation Zero 2024:???

We had a great time at Innovation Zero 2024, a two-day climate congress aimed at accelerating meaningful action towards a low carbon economy and society. We joined business leaders, policy makers and experts in the space to discuss how we can scale innovation to lead the low carbon transformation.??

Experts included our UK BECCS Programme Director, Richard Gwilliam , and our Commercial Director, Angela Hepworth , who both joined panels to discuss the importance of high-integrity carbon removals, our plans for BECCS at Drax and more.?

  • MoU agreed to develop the world’s first biomass-fuelled ship:???

We’ve agreed a MoU with leading Japanese companies, NYK Line , NYK Bulk & Projects Carriers and Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. to develop the world’s first biomass-fuelled ship (bioship) and the technology that could power it.?

At Drax, we have an ambition to be carbon negative by 2030 and decarbonising our supply chain is critical to reaching this goal. Through the MoU, we will conduct research to develop an on-board fuel plant, which would be required to power a bioship. The installation of a biomass fuel plant could see a 22% reduction in well-to-wake carbon emissions in bioships when compared to using fossil fuels.?

This rating from VisitScotland places Cruachan Visitor Centre among the top 1% of attractions across the country. To earn this, a 'secret shopper' style visit took place, during which the centre earned top marks for the performance of its employees in areas including hospitality and friendliness, service and efficiency, cleanliness of all areas and appearance.?

  • Our UK BECCS Programme Director discusses the importance of carbon removals with The New Statesman :???

If the UK is to reach its climate targets, delivering carbon removals is crucial. At Drax, we’re planning for the future by converting two of our units at Drax Power Station to BECCS, enabling us to capture eight million tonnes of carbon a year – equivalent to stopping all departing flights from Heathrow.?

Over the two days, we’ll come together with leaders from Europe’s most energy-intensive sectors, to deliver invaluable insights into policy, projects, technology, and investments driving progress in Europe’s mission to be the first Net Zero continent.? ??

?? We will also be at the BECCS Summit 2024, a BECCS industry event we’re co-hosting with Inherit on 20th June. Through the summit, we’ll be bringing together an exciting group of around 150 speakers and like-minded people to discuss BECCS and how it can help tackle climate change. ?
