Welcome back to our LinkedIn newsletter as we share some of our highlights from June. From the inaugural BECCS Summit to the latest round of funding from the Drax Foundation, it’s been an exciting month for Drax.?

  • Our CEO gives his opinion on how Drax’s plans can help the next UK government deliver energy security?

Subject to getting the right policy support, we stand ready to invest billions to deliver carbon removals and renewable power using BECCS at Drax and more than double the pumped hydro storage capacity at Cruachan. ????

These projects will play a vital role in providing secure power to the country and supporting the next government in meeting the goal of a decarbonised grid by 2030 or 2035. ????

  • DNV greenlights BECCS carbon removals methodology??

??? A new, world-leading methodology for certifying net CDRs from BECCS has been approved by DNV, the independent energy expert and assurance provider. ????? ?

?? Until now there were no comprehensive standards for measuring, reporting, and verifying carbon removals from BECCS. This is a significant milestone for both Drax and Stockholm Exergi , as it will support the deployment of BECCS - a crucial technology in the fight against climate change. ??

  • Drax and Inherit Carbon Solutions co-hosted the inaugural BECCS Summit?

In June, we co-hosted the inaugural BECCS Summit with Inherit Carbon Solutions, sponsored by Mitsibushi Heavy Industries. The key takeaway was evident: real climate action is needed now, and BECCS presents a viable, high-integrity solution to help the world achieve ambitious net zero targets. ?? ?

With panellists and speakers from Carbon Direct , CDR.fyi , Patch and the Carbon Capture and Storage Association , the event dived into several topics including an outlook on the #CDR market, the race for integrity in the #VCM and why buyers need to get involved in the market now.?

  • The Drax Foundation gives £886k to boost STEM education, support communities and reduce energy poverty?

This £886k funding will help to support our communities in the UK, US and Canada.???

The Drax Foundation operates in the UK, USA and Canada. It is focused on funding initiatives that deliver education and skills development in #STEM, those that improve green spaces and enhance biodiversity within local communities and improve access to renewable energy and energy efficiency in areas of low social mobility. ?????

  • Drax wins BritishAmerican Business Transatlantic Growth Award?

?? We’re delighted to have won the BritishAmerican Business (BAB) Transatlantic Growth Award in the Midsize Growth and Investments category at their award ceremony this month, highlighting the stories of businesses that underpin the trade and investment relationship between the UK and the USA. ???

We received the award for our plans to deploy and develop BECCS in the US by developing a new independent business unit, which is focused on becoming the global leader in BECCS.



???? Next week, Drax Electric Vehicles are participating in the GREENFLEET EV Rally. The EV Rally is a five-day event in which 40 teams from across the #EV industry travel the length of England (1,400+ miles) to demonstrate the progression and ability of EV charging infrastructure and vehicle technology. ?? We will also be attending the UK’s BigZero show from the 2nd-3rd July, where Angela Hepworth , Commercial Director at Drax will present on the role of carbon removals in achieving net zero.
