  • Supporting our US communities:???

At Drax, we’re proud to have a positive impact in the communities and regions where we operate. This month, we announced that our Community Fund has awarded nearly $100,000 to local non-profit organisations and community projects in Amite County, Mississippi. Read more here .??

As well as this, we were proud to introduce the inaugural members of the Gloster Community Advisory Panel, which will help us to deepen our engagement with the local community and more effectively respond to their needs. Find out more here .??


  • Our countdown to carbon negative has less than 2000 days to go: ???

Drax was the first energy company in the world to announce an ambition to be carbon negative by 2030 – this month marked less than 2000 days to go. We are confident we can achieve our ambition with our plans to develop BECCS globally and to expand Cruachan Power Station.??


  • Future Energy Scenarios Report highlights the importance of BECCS in reaching Net Zero:???

National Grid ESO released its Future Energy Scenarios (FES) Report, outlining credible ways to decarbonise our energy system as we strive towards the 2050 target. Importantly, the FES report highlights the critical role BECCS will play in helping the UK reach Net Zero.??

  • Our plans to expand Cruachan Power Station move forward:????

We’ve appointed global technology and engineering firm, Voith Hydro , to move forward our plans to build the UK’s first pumped storage hydro scheme in 40 years.??

The proposed 600 MW underground plant, which received development consent from the Scottish Government last year, would be constructed underground adjacent to our existing Cruachan facility. Voith Hydro has been appointed to complete a Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) study for the Mechanical and Electrical components of the design - a major milestone for the project.

  • Drax names and launches a new transport ship in Japan:???

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Drax Power Station beginning to generate power, we’ve launched and named a new Ultrabulk A/S ship, the 'Ultra Yorkshire'. We were honoured to participate in the launch ceremony in Japan, alongside members of the Ultrabulk team, the Shin Kirushima shipyard and a number of Japanese corporations.??

???? Looking ahead to events that are coming up, we will be attending New York Climate Week #NYCW in September, where we look forward to engaging with business leaders, policy makers and experts in the climate space to discuss what is needed to tackle the climate challenge. ?

?? From 11th-12th September, we will also be joining around 500 business leaders, investors, buyers and policy makers at Carbon Unbound Europe, where we look forward to discussing the importance of carbon removal technologies and how we can scale them. ?
