As part of our 50th celebrations, we’ve unveiled a special golden wagon, which has been seen for the first time crossing Yorkshire’s iconic Ribblehead Viaduct. We also held a special rail event as part of our celebrations, which raised over £30,000 for Martin House Children's Hospice . The rail event saw three unique passenger train services operate on the Drax Power Station loop, which is usually restricted to freight trains for the transportation of sustainable biomass. Plus, there were naming ceremonies for two of the current class 66 locomotives which supply Drax Power Station – they were named ‘Yorkshire Rose’ and ‘Drax Power Station 50’.?

We’re pleased to share that all DB Cargo trains that transport our sustainable biomass to Drax Power Station will be powered by environmentally friendly Hydro-treated Vegetable Oil (HVO). This is part of our efforts to reduce our supply chain emissions, helping to achieve our ambition of becoming carbon negative by 2030.?
DB Cargo currently transports around 4.5 million tonnes of biomass pellets to Drax Power Station each year - it's estimated that switching from traditional red diesel to HVO will save over 12,000 tonnes of carbon each year, equivalent to 30 million miles worth of car journeys.?
