Drawing the curtains on 2020

As the year draws to a close, and we’re all still working remotely (who knows, maybe it’s forever), the People Team at INSHUR have been working hard to bring a little sparkle to everyone’s life, even if it is (mostly) online.
Here’s 6 things we did throughout December to try and bring some holiday cheer to all our team members.
...We sent gifts and planted (many) trees
We kicked festivities off by making sure every single team member got some treats in the post. Nothing extravagant, just a little something that says ‘we appreciate you and your hard work; we see you and we are grateful for your contribution’. A massive bonus to our 2020 gift was the fact that for every chocolate bar we sent, a tree had been planted. And so, just like that, we have planted 240 trees in 2020 alone. Eating chocolate while planting trees. Win-win!
...We raised money for a good cause
We launched a fundraise for Save the children, to give something back. Here’s an article Mat wrote about giving back generally, but, similarly to what we did last year in person, we donned festive jumpers for one day only, raising money for a worthwhile charity. At the time of writing, the fundraise is still open (here, in case you feel like chipping in)!
...We held a Holiday Party
After last year’s more traditional office party, this year, we opted for virtual Escape Rooms. Assembled into teams of 5, the majority of the company gathered to escape out of one of the rooms assigned - there was Gold Rush, The Heist and Prison Break. The idea was that we create a good mix of departments, geographic locations, genders and seniority levels and get everyone to work together towards a common goal. Here’s a pic of the winning team who made it out of the room with much time to spare!
...We created some festive, INSHUR-themed cocktails
Some of us also took some time earlier in the day to make ourselves a drink or two; entirely optional but a nice-to-do. We had mocktails and cocktails, all transport/cab/INSHUR themed. Corny or not, you decide!
...We baked gingerbread people
Our own Gina, the newest member of our finance team, kindly agreed to hold a gingerbread making masterclass and we gathered to bake together. A simple enough exercise that was nourishing for the soul, and something that kids (and partners!) could participate in as well. Bonus: we discovered we had a YouTube star in our ranks in the process, and the cookies were delish!
….We looked back on 2020 and we took stock, together.
For our last All Hands of the year, we gathered to look back at 2020 as a business, as teams, and as individuals. Hosted by our founders, we looked back through 2020 highlights for each and every team, and used the opportunity to publicly thank our friends and colleagues for all the hard work. We’ve achieved a lot in 2020, and below are just some snippets in numbers:
