The drama (free?) One

The drama (free?) One

"Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean." Ryunosuke Satoro

Welcome to another edition of The Leadershifts Chronicle, a newsletter where I share ideas and resources for leaders who build better businesses and explore new ways of running an organisation.

Ready to say no to drama? This week, I attended Jim Dethmer second session of the Transforming Team course, in which we discussed Karpman's drama triangle. This is a pattern we see often in teams and organisations, blocking the full potential of that team or business.

How do you step out of the Drama Triangle?

  1. be aware of the roles you play and find ways to shift yourself out of that position
  2. Move to the centre, which means you stop acting as the victim, rescuer or persecutor.
  3. Refuse to accept your opponent’s force. Stop struggling. Neatly avoid awkward, indefensible, or unreasonable positions.

None of this means you care less about people. It simply means you’ll be able to make better choices for yourself and for others who are stuck in Drama Triangles of their own.

Let's move towards a drama-free world!

Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.

Welcome to this week's Leadershifts Chronicle...

Enjoy...

Things to Explore

?? Stories about business transformations always catch my attention. Harvard Business Review published an article on the challenges of becoming a less hierarchical organisation of Avinsa S.A.S. , a food processing company in Santander, Colombia. The researchers and company CEO (Juan Pablo Sánchez Celi) highlight a series of structural and people dynamics leaders should look out for in their efforts.

?? 61% of CEOs worry their company can't keep up. (according to the Alixpartners Disruption Index) Why do some companies grow amid uncertainty while others don't? In this HBR article, the authors dig into the 2024 data to find out what sets these companies apart and what other companies can learn about setting growth strategies in an uncertain world.

?? A few weeks ago, the SXSW Conference took place. A Walhalla for digital creatives to encounter cutting-edge ideas and discover new interests. On YouTube, you will find an extensive list of talks at the conference.

One of my favourite talks is "Exploring your organization's futures" by Amy Webb (CEO of Future Today Institute ). She discusses Strategic foresight, which shows us where to play in the future, how to win, and how to build resiliency in the wake of unstoppable external forces of change.

??How to outgrow your problems transitioning from a "victim" to a "self-author." Based on Robert Kegan's and Ken Wilbers's adult development work and integral framework, Achim Feige developed "vertical adult development" He defined a 5 step process: "Aware, Object, Subject, Transcend and Integrate" to transform our relationship with our problems.

Things to watch

What are you unconsciously committed to?

Unconscious commitments are things we never explicitly decided we'd commit to, but we unconsciously committed to doing them at some point. We never explicitly agreed to this “rule,” but at some point, we accepted it as truth and committed to it.

What's your hidden iceberg? As leaders, we are urged to examine the patterns in our lives that contradict our conscious goals, asking ourselves why these patterns persist and what payoffs we are receiving from maintaining those patterns.

Things to listen to

This week, I discovered the "Chaos Catalyst" podcast, hosted by seasoned organizational leadership coach Debbie Baute, PhD Debbie guides business leaders through the labyrinth of chaos, helping them transition to growth through personal leadership. Debbie's podcast provides the tools to navigate chaos, transform challenges into opportunities, and build a resilient leadership identity.

So that's it for this week.

Like always, feedback is very welcome and appreciated. It helps me grow on my path to becoming a better leader.

Have a great weekend and till next week...
