DR. SUSAN SCHIFF GEIST BROKE HIPAA
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) is a federal law that required the creation of national standards to protect sensitive patient health information from being disclosed without the patient’s consent or knowledge. The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued the HIPAA Privacy Rule to implement the requirements of HIPAA. The HIPAA Security Rule protects a subset of information covered by the Privacy Rule.
In the summer of 2005 as I walked up my psychologist's driveway for my morning therapy appointment I ran into Dr. Richard's Geist's wife. I said hello. And I was literally floored by what she said next to me!!! She asked me how my colonoscopy went!!!???!!! She also brazenly stated: "You know I know" - well, NO I DID NOT KNOW YOU KNEW, since this was PRIVATE/CONFIDENTIAL information that I ONLY TOLD MY HUSBAND AND PSYCHOLOGIST!!!! IF she did know why was she so stupid to let me in on it???
This was the woman that tried to bill my insurance when I NEVER SAW HER ONCE FOR THERAPY!!! She was a psychiatrist. But I was NOT HER PATIENT! She was practicing FRAUD in doing so and BREAKING ALL the HIPAA RULES!!! I could have REPORTED HER!!! And if I did her license would have clearly been suspended!!!! But I was kind and did not!!!
