Dr. Steven Ezzell Honored with AEG Vision's Optometric Excellence Award for March

Abilene, TX -- Dr. Steven Ezzell of Family Vision Associates has been named the recipient of AEG Vision ’s Optometric Excellence Award for March. Nominated by practice manager Amara Smart , Dr. Ezzell exemplifies dedication, expertise, and a patient-centered approach to optometry that makes him a standout in his field.

An Abilene native, Dr. Ezzell graduated from Abilene High School before attending Abilene Christian University, where he played baseball for the Wildcats. He later earned his Bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and went on to receive his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 1998. Since joining Family Vision Associates that same year, he has been committed to providing exceptional care using the latest technology to diagnose and treat ocular diseases, evaluate visual systems, and conduct refractive surgery consultations. Dr. Ezzell is an active member of the American Optometric Association, the Texas Optometric Association, and the American Academy of Optometry.

Dr. Ezzell’s nomination highlights his unwavering commitment to excellence in patient care. He ensures accessibility by extending availability beyond regular office hours and creates customized treatment plans tailored to each individual’s needs. A prime example of his dedication occurred on a particularly busy Friday in July when Dr. Ezzell managed an overwhelming patient load without compromising the quality of care. Despite being double- and even triple-booked in multiple time slots, he saw 15 patients across nine scheduled slots, taking the time to thoroughly address each concern. His ability to remain composed, focused, and attentive under such demanding conditions underscores his deep commitment to his patients.

Beyond his clinical excellence, Dr. Ezzell is deeply invested in both his team and community. He actively supports his colleagues by providing mentorship and guidance, helping to set a high standard for patient care. Additionally, he serves on the board of the West Texas Rehabilitation Center and is involved in initiatives that support homeless and at-risk youth, ensuring they receive the same compassionate and high-quality care as all his patients.

Dr. Ezzell’s dedication extends beyond the walls of his practice. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoys hunting and fishing in his free time. He and his wife, Carin, also an Abilene native, share a strong connection to the community and take pride in raising their two sons, Andrew and Matthew, in their hometown.
