Dr. Shashank Khurana has been working?as an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering,?Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani - Dubai Campus (BPDC). He is also serving?as a Deputy-Head of the department.?
Prior to joining BPDC, he worked as Senior Research Scholar at Peking University, China, where his focus was on Turbulence in High-speed flows. He holds a Doctorate degree in the field of Advanced Energy from the University of Tokyo, Japan, where he investigated on Passive Flow control Methods?for Lifting Body Configurations?in Hypersonic Flows. He has contributed towards the development of Minors in Aeronautics Program at BPDC, together with introducing the courses on Principles of Aerodynamics and Introduction to Flight as electives for undergraduate students.
His research areas include #Experimental #Fluid_Mechanics, #Bluff_Body #Aerodynamics, Passive Flow Control, Drag Reduction, #Hypersonic #Aerothermodynamics for Lifting Bodies, Bio-inspired Flows and Biofuels.
At present, his students are working on assessing the efficacy of Micro Vortex Generators for #Aerospace Applications, exploring and developing newer techniques for controlled Internal Aerodynamics (associated with #Nozzle Jets), optimizing the #Engine Performance and #Emissions with the use of #Biodiesels, and investigating the effect of Building Energy Retrofits on Indoor Air Quality.
