There are several things to consider when a patient has multiple therapists, including:?
- Conflicting advice: Patients may receive conflicting therapeutic advice from different therapists.?
- Treatment plans: Patients may have overlapping or contradictory treatment plans.?
- Splitting behaviors: Patients may exhibit splitting behaviors in therapy.?
- Getting other perspectives: Patients may want to get other perspectives, but this can delay their choices.?
- Access to joint records: If a patient's attorney subpoenas joint records, the therapist must get releases from all involved parties. If the patient requests access to joint records under HIPAA, it's a gray area.?
- This is how bizarre my abuse was at the hands of these two doctors who I was seeing as a borderline patient with post traumatic stress and anxiety disorder. I was Dr. Richard Geist's Patient as well as Dr. James Barbaria's patient. I was honest with both doctors and they knew about each other. I told Dr. Geist I was sexually attracted to him and Dr. James Barbaria and having sex with Dr. James Barbaria even though I was still married and living with my husband and son, who also knew about the affair. He then had me come in with Dr. Barbaria and saw us as a couple, encouraging the immoral and unethical relationship. He also saw Dr. James Barbaria alone. They both coerced me into keeping my mouth shut about the whole sordid affair knowing they both would be in hot water if anyone were to find out. Dr. Richard Geist was also sexual with me, allowing me to lay on the floor and in his lap, stroking his p*nis.
- Now I am a shattered woman who has severe panic attacks, nightmares, insomnia and turned into an alcoholic in my 50's! But I brought BOTH DOCTORS TO THE LICENSING BOARD AND WRITTEN MANY BOOKS AVAILABLE ON AMAZON!
Psychologists should avoid multiple relationships that could impair their objectivity, competence, or effectiveness. They should also avoid relationships that could risk exploitation or harm to the patient.?
