Worried about aging? Dr. Raymond Rezaie is going to share some tips for maintaining good health as you grow older.
Time keeps on turning and as the years go by, your body is going to age. Often, this means you’ll suffer from more health problems minor and great. Dr. Raymond Rezaie, who has helped countless patients cope with aging, is going to share some insights for maintaining good health throughout life.
“Aging is natural, and it can cause a lot of aches and other issues,” Dr. Raymond Rezaie notes. “Healthy habits now could save you from a lot of pain later in life. Your future self will appreciate your efforts.”
Your hands might get a bit sore now, for example, after doing some yard work or while you’re typing out the next Great American novel. In a few years, that soreness could become debilitating, and you may start skipping the activities you love. Fortunately, by adopting certain habits now, you can reduce strain on your body.
"You want to avoid over-exertion with your hands and take regular breaks to let them rest," Dr. Raymond Rezaie says. "This is true for your knees, elbows, and other joints as well."
Another important consideration is your vision. A lot of people young and old spend a lot of time staring at screens. This might mean your smartphone, computer, television, or another screen. Unfortunately, too much screen time can strain your eyes and over time could even impair your vision.
“It’s smart to take breaks away from your screens,” Dr. Rezaie suggests. “Taking just five or ten minutes off every hour may help reduce strain. If you develop this habit now, you may enjoy better vision later in life.”
Getting your diet under control is also very important. Extra weight can be hard on your bones and joints, especially as you age. Instead of adopting a hard diet and setting a big goal, say losing thirty pounds in the next three months, consider gradual changes in what you eat.
“Try to eat some fruit for breakfast rather than fast food,” Doctor Rezaie says. “Make sure your diet is balanced, and you’re getting enough vitamins. If there are gaps, consider supplements or adjustments to your diet. And if you can lose a few pounds here and there, it’ll add up over time.”
It’s also smart to cut back on soda and also diet soda. Regular soda is high in sugar and calories. Even diet soda can cause problems, such as increased cravings for sweet foods. You don’t have to quit soda cold turkey, but it’s smart to slowly decrease your consumption.
Dr. Raymond Rezaie Says Exercise Is Important Too
Regular, low-impact exercise is great for keeping your body in shape as you age. You don’t have to engage in overly strenuous exercise, especially if doing so is hard on your knees. A long walk in the park or a swimming session may help your body stay in shape without causing you to overexert yourself.
“Definitely, the right exercise is important as you age,” Dr. Raymond Rezaie says. “It’s best to find something you truly enjoy, such as taking long walks while listening to music or going on gentle hikes through scenic areas. Don’t over-exert yourself, of course, but if you get in the habit of working out now, it’ll be easier to stick to it as you age.”
