Dr. Runoko Rashidi was an Anthropologist and a Historian. His focus was the Global African Presence, that is, Africans around the world before and after enslavement. He wrote 18 books. They include BLACK STAR: THE AFRICAN PRESENCE IN EARLY EUROPE and AFRICAN STAR OVER ASIA.

Dr. Rashidi had visited 104 countries and made presentations in 59 of them. In 1987 he inaugurated the First All-India Dalit Writer’s Conference in Hyderabad, India.

In 1999 he was a keynote speaker at the International Reunion of the African Family in Latin America in Barlovento, Venezuela.

In 2010 he was first keynote speaker at the First Global Black Nationalities Conference in Osogbo, Nigeria.

As a tour leader he has taken groups to India, Australia, Fiji, Turkey, Jordan, Brazil, Egypt, Ghana, Togo, Benin, France, Belgium, England, the Netherlands, Spain, Morocco, Senegal, the Gambia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar.

He was constantly on the go. If not racking up frequent flier miles across the globe, he was diligently adding to his tally here, hop-scotching across the country from city to city, sharing what he has learned about the African past and the present and future course of African Diaspora communities around the world.

He made his transition while leading a tour of the monuments of Ancient Egypt. He was a dear friend and close colleague who, rest assured, is working diligently on our behalf on the other side along with all our powerful ancestral figures.
