Coronavirus update, FROM DR MALONEY

With regards to opening up the office let the re-opening of New York City be our litmus test. After having the largest number of cases and deaths in the United States Governor Cuomo is being extremely careful in reopening various regions of New York State. The CDC, Dr. Fauci and Governor Cuomo are all expecting and preparing for this virus to return with a vengeance. A patient of mine was just admitted to New York Hospital Cornell, one of, if not the largest hospital system in New York City. Upon arrival to the emergency room, she and her family were shocked to see that there were absolutely no patients in the emergency room, completely empty, early evening at a time generally when this emergency room would be overflowing with patients. As I previously stated, the last place anyone wants to be, unless absolutely necessary, is at any healthcare facility. I’ve been taking care of all of my patients using telemedicine or simply by phone, with great success. Insurance companies are following recommendations through July 30 now that all restrictions regarding seeing patients using simple methods like a telephone call even without video are acceptable, and fully covered without patients having to pay anything to encourage all not to go to healthcare facilities. Deductibles and co-pays have been eliminated to encourage all to call their doctors and speak to the doctors or video conference their doctors instead of going to the doctors office for your protection and the protection of all healthcare workers. Therefore we will continue to use this method of seeing our patients, for the protection of my patients above all.

We have been doing the seven days a week and will continue to do so. It would seem that this would be more convenient for us but it is not. I miss being with and seeing all of my patients who are the best patients a doctor could ever wish for. I really mean that. I love being a doctor and taking care of all of you.
