Dr. Majid Hassan Khan completed his PhD at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay), Mumbai, India, and is currently an assistant professor in the department of mechanical engineering at the BITS Pilani Dubai Campus.?
Prior to this work, he worked as a postdoctoral research assistant at the University of Reading, UK. He was a project researcher scientist at IIT Bombay.?He has also spent a year at IISc, Bangalore, working in Prof. Jaywant Arakeri’s group as a postdoctoral research associate.?
His research areas include experimental fluid dynamics where he uses flow visualization and PIV (particle image velocimetry) to investigate flow around 2D and 3D bluff bodies, droplet surface interactions, behaviour and flow physics of freely falling particles, bio-inspired flows.?
At present his students are working on fish swimming, flapping of bio-inspired foils, fall and rise behaviour of particles and bubbles. Although his work is mostly about designing and performing experiments, he flirts with simulations using Lattice Boltzmann Method and openFoam for fluid flow problems.
