Dr. King's Dream Lives On

Sixty years ago today, on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech. The occasion was the March on Washington, which drew 250,000 people and still stands as one of the largest civil rights demonstrations in U.S. history.

Then, as now, the speech and the March served as a call to action for peace, justice, and equality, as the National Museum of African-American History and Culture’s “Why We March” video reminds us. It is small wonder that Dr. King’s iconic speech is a modern-day anthem that still resonates with Americans of all races, faith traditions, political affiliations, and creeds — and indeed with people far beyond the U.S.’s borders.

That also explains why several thousand people again rallied this past Saturday on the National Mall in Washington to commemorate this important anniversary and remind the nation of its unfinished work on equality. ??

Ultimately, that is the best homage we can pay to Dr. King’s legacy and powerful oratory: that we take inspiration from it as we work collectively to build a more perfect union.

Marty Rodgers Thank you for the post; the timing couldn't be better to remind the world the legacy of Dr. King, my civil rights hero and his struggle for non-violence and humanity, our commonality, first. ?I think, considering all that’s going and especially with top risks as listed here: https://time.com/6552898/top-10-global-risks-for-2024/ ,?Dr. Martin Luther King made it easier for us to carry on, for each of us to serve to the best of our abilities and set examples for future generations. Dr. King provided us with a blueprint and made it easier to move forward. This should never be taken for granted but be a constant reminder. There is still a lot of challenges to act upon to make this world a better place for all to keep keep the dream alive, with the dreamerand his philosophy in mind. I am grateful for Marty Rodgers and #accenture to serve communities promoting values, principles based respect, inclusion and diversity. #MLKDay #humanityfirst
