ELK GROVE, CA – Dr. Jennifer Courtney is proud to lead California Northstate University’s (CNU) efforts to support community health. Over the last year, she has played an integral role in coordinating community clinics that have successfully administered over 45,000 COVID-19 vaccines and over 500 doses of Jynneos Monkeypox vaccine.
“Our participation in recent community health clinics is just one of the many ways that the team at California Northstate University aims to promote public health, mitigate health disparities, and guard our community against pandemics,” said Dr. Courtney. “I have been deeply invested in serving others since my time as a student at CNU. Now, as a professor, my mission is to always put those in the community first while training our students to provide great patient care.”
Dr. Courtney is an Assistant Professor of Clinical and Administrative Sciences at California Northstate University College of Pharmacy (CNU-COP) and a practicing pharmacist at a community pharmacy in Fairfield. Dr. Courtney received her Bachelor of Sciences degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of California, Davis, and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from California Northstate University College of Pharmacy.
“At CNU, I have had the rewarding opportunity to practice at the top of my license while teaching others to do the same,” said Dr. Courtney. “My community outreach efforts have provided me with profound professional fulfillment. The feeling I receive when making a difference in a patient’s life is simply indescribable.”

Dr. Courtney’s professional interests include leadership, vaccinations, educating on substance use disorders and pharmacy and patient advocacy. Since losing her father to the coronavirus, she has been passionate about vaccinating as many individuals against COVID-19 as possible.?
“Pharmacists are the most accessible healthcare providers,” said Dr. Courtney. “Many times, the community pharmacist sees a patient before they even go to their physician’s office. I look forward to using my clinical and professional skills to educate and help as many individuals as possible.”
Dr. Courtney is a pharmacy leader at both the state and national level and is the recent recipient of the prestigious 2022 American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) New Investigator Award. In 2020, she was awarded SVPhA Pharmacist of the Year Award which recognizes an outstanding new practitioner who has demonstrated leadership at multiple levels of pharmacy.
Dr. Courtney served as President to one of the California Pharmacist’s Association (CPhA) local chapters, Sacramento Valley Pharmacist’s Association (SVPhA), in 2018 and currently serves as Speaker-Elect for the CPhA. She also received the New Practitioner Award from CPhA in 2020. Dr. Courtney also serves as the student advisor for the CPhA/APhA-ASP chapter at CNU where she enjoys precepting community outreach events with students.
Dr. Courtney lives in Fairfield with her husband and their two Labrador Retrievers and enjoys traveling, camping, and working out. ??
