Only a week out of leaving the position I held for five years at the University of Texas, I am already embracing new beginnings. I started my coaching business a year ago, though it almost feels like I have just begun.

Now, the decision didn’t happen overnight – it took many conversations with my mentors, with my husband, with myself… and “letting go” or “releasing” something as important and financially impactful as a full-time job is not an “easy” decision to make.

So how did I do it?

And how can you do it, too?

Be grateful for what is ending.

I borrowed this trick from Marie Kondo’s ‘Konmari Method’.

Step 3 states:

“Finish discarding first. Before getting rid of items, sincerely thank each item for serving its purpose.”

In this case, I’m not getting rid of materialistic items, but beginning a new journey. I am committing myself to a new path where I can help more musicians in a broader sense who are located around the world, with their own businesses and careers.

In doing so, I am focusing my time on what will ultimately ‘spark joy’ in my own life, while still being incredibly grateful for the opportunities I have created over the years.

My business is going through a journey of growth, and so am I. I want to go all in, and create something that is more sustainable for me in my daily life. Not having to sacrifice family time is one of the most important values to me. 

Although making this decision was not easy, I was able to find the courage within myself to take this next step in my career. If you are feeling similarly in your own life – know that you are not alone. 

In conjunction with making the decision to change my career path, I wanted to make sure that what I was doing would align with my core values and goals that I have created for myself. 

Above all, it’s about aligning my values, and making the right move for my career.
