Dr. Ashley Crumby has been selected as a 2023 New Investigator
Instructional assistant professor at the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy, Ashley Crumby, PharmD, PhD has been honored by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) as a 2023 New Investigator. This award is highly regarded by Pharmacy faculty as the initial review is peer review selected, and the intention of the award is designed to provide start-up funding for the independent research programs of early-career pharmacy faculty.
Crumby’s topic of research is “Factors associated with student pharmacist engagement in mentoring relationships.”
“I am excited to get started with the research later this spring and am humbled to have even been selected!” said Crumby.
The AACP award assists early-career pharmacy faculty in the development of an independent #research program. Providing a foundation for future extramural research funding success, the award enables researchers to generate preliminary data.
“The goal of the project is to identify existing motivators and barriers that influence student pharmacists’ engagement in mentoring relationships - through one-on-one conversations, group discussions, and ultimately a broader survey,” Crumby explained.
The project findings are expected to provide faculty and administrators with more insight into how to develop structured mentoring programs. How to foster structured mentoring relationships is part of the expected results of Crumby’s research.
Motivators and barriers associated with mentoring engagement will be identified.
Crumby said, “This project should result in the development of #mentoring programs, either structured or unstructured, that will appeal to student pharmacists and ultimately lead to increased engagement.”

As the coordinator of the Academic Achievement Program, she identifies and supports student pharmacists seeking to reach their academic goals.
UM Chair and Professor of the Department of Pharmacy Administration Dr. Yi Yang said, “Please join me in congratulating Dr. Ashley Crumby for getting the AACP New Investigator Award for her proposal entitled, ‘Factors associated with student pharmacist engagement in mentoring relationships.’ Congratulations, Dr. Crumby!”
