DPIIT: Nine (9) Copper and Eight (8) Tin products under mandatory BIS

Generally, the Quality Control Standards are voluntary and the companies may or may not follow them. But they can be mandatory if the government of India notifies them.
DPIIT in its Orders dated 17th October, 2023 have issued two Orders for mandatory Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) compliance. There orders are Copper Product (Quality Control) Order, 2023 and Drums and Tins (Quality Control) Order, 2023.
These Orders will be compulsorily applied for production, sale, import and stocking of copper and tin products.
The nine copper products are

8??????? 10773:1995?? Wrought Copper Tubes for Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Purposes
9??????? 4412:1981??? Copper Wires for general engineering purposes
Similarly, the eight tin and drums are brought under mandatory BIS marks:-

In this regard, please note the following points:
1)??? Time lines are specified. These Orders are effective from six month from date of publication of the Orders. For small and micro enterprises, additional time of 3 months and six months respectively are given
2)??? These Orders will not apply for goods manufactured in India for export.
3)??? Penalties for non-compliance are for first offence- 2 years imprisonment or minimum INR 2 Lakhs. For subsequent offence- minimum INR 5 Lakhs or 10 times of value of goods.
4)??? The entities need to get BIS registration and put BIS marks on the goods.
5)??? These Orders are applicable ??to import from any country including from China.
6)??? BIS is preparing 60 Quality Control Orders covering 318 products.
7)??? The ostensible purpose of the Orders are promotion and use of high-quality coppers/tins products in India.
