I am proud to be part of an institution, DP World , where our sustainability agenda, driving every cog of global operations across 295 business units in 78 countries spanning six continents, genuinely continues to fulfil our business purpose and mandate of changing what’s possible for everyone.

ESG stewardship through sustainable business innovation means playing a central role in preserving our planet for future generations by reducing carbon emissions, protecting ecosystems and enhancing and restoring oceans. By using state-of-the-art technology, powered by renewable energy, to pioneer the most efficient and cost-cutting intermodal transport systems,??DP World?continues to lead the sustainability torch while offering unprecedented convenience for future generations. A case in point is DP World Antwerp, an ultra-modern multimodal terminal running on 100% green energy, that has reduced its CO? emissions by 28% since 2019 and by an impressive 51% since 2013. In fact, the terminal has avoided 187,379 truck visits in the last two years due to night openings.

In addition, DP World continues to foster an end-to-end habitat with minimal intermediaries to cut inefficiencies and unnecessary carbon emissions in every step of the supply chain. To that end, we have expanded our outreach and no longer only focus on ships arriving and leaving our docks. We are increasingly responsible for the cargo’s sustainable journey from when it departs factory doors to when it arrives at consumers' doorsteps. To track carbon footprint at source,? DP World -owned Unifeeder , based in Denmark, recently announced a new avant-garde?live tracking tool that calculates emissions of each container. The ‘Actual Emission Tracker’ tool gives businesses greater awareness, visibility and control over their emissions.

Two other poignant examples that exemplify DP World ’s efforts with championing sustainable business innovation are listed below:

• Our Jebel Ali Terminal in Dubai is piloting the High Bay Storage (HBS) system 'Boxbay.' Fully powered by solar panels, this incredible innovation reduces the land area needed to support terminal operations by nearly 70% and increases yearly yard throughput per hectare. With the use of this disruptive technology, the patented design and rack structure creates unique advantages with containers stored up to eleven stories high, delivering the capacity of a conventional terminal in a third of the surface area. It enables significant gains in handling speed, energy efficiency, safety and a major reduction in operating costs.

• Our DP World Cargospeed, the first initiative of its kind, was created through a partnership with Virgin Hyperloop . The systems are completely electric and can be powered by renewable energy, creating a more sustainable solution for cargo transport. This provides hyperloop-enabled cargo systems that will enable fast, sustainable and efficient delivery of palletised cargo around the world. Such technology involves low-pressure tubes using levitated capsules propelled by electromagnetic propulsion. This has the potential to drastically reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions while simultaneously offering the added convenience of increasing travel speeds to deliver high-priority, time-sensitive goods including fresh food, medical supplies and electronics, to list a few.

Overall, through the continuous adoption of innovation and technology, DP World is making unprecedented strides and we are keen to support?our supply chain partners and customer reduce their carbon footprint.
