SUSTAINABLE, LIVEABLE, SMART LESSONS FROM SINGAPORE
Singapore can only allocate a small portion of its land to housing because of the other competing land use demands of a city-state. How does a city cope with the liveability challenges of a high population density? Government initiatives, as well as innovation in the private sector, lead the solutions.
DP Architects director Chan Hui Min spoke about these lessons from Singapore at the RE360 conference on 4 December held in Turkey at the Four Seasons Hotel ?stanbul at the Bosphorus. The 2 days conference gathers real estate industry leaders to share their experiences. Using this platform, the best minds came together to provide 360-degree solutions. The event saw 671 participants, 221 real estate leaders and 93 public representatives.
Hui Min spoke about how the Smart Nation initiatives in Singapore has influenced development in both the private and public sectors in Singapore to achieve the goals of a sustainable and liveable city.
Government programmes on Smart, Liveability and Sustainability make their way through all publicly-funded buildings and infrastructure, such as Kampung Admiralty and Our Tampines Hub. These projects experiment with innovative mixed-uses that address the needs of the ageing population and community social cohesion in a liveable and sustainable manner. The government innovation programmes influence the design, implementation and operation of these public infrastructures, incorporating DFMA and Smart concepts at the relevant stages of the project life cycle.
