Downtown Resident Protecting Her Neighbors

No alt text provided for this image

In this time of crisis, there always seems to be kind people who put others before themselves. People that step up to help their neighbors. Martina Hanoglu, co-owner of Alihan's Mediterranean Cuisine and Giovanni's Pizza and Pasta, is one of those. Martina offered to the Downtown CDC to provide handmade, reusable, and washable face masks that are so important for the prevention of the virus spread.

When I went to Giovanni's to meet with her - and pick up my food - the first thing she did was give me a mask and gloves. As I walked into the pizzeria, I noticed that every worker, all the cooks, the person taking orders, cashier handing food to the customers through the window and the drivers were all wearing the same masks and gloves that she gave me.

When I questioned her about all of her employees taking these safety precautions Hanoglu stated, "We believe that we have an obligation to protect the community. We want to provide food safe and delicious as usual. It's not only making masks for residents but also setting an example starting with us".

Giovanni's has become the model for all businesses that are still open. It is important that we all protect each other by wearing the face masks: I protect you, you protect me. The idea behind wearing the mask is that the potentially sick person will keep her virus in her own mask without spreading it around.

Giovanni's is open for take-out and delivery and extended delivery range to a six-mile radius from their Sixth St. location. To place an order call 412-281-7060 or order online at www.ilovegiovannis.com

If you need a mask for yourself, you can reach Martina at [email protected].

Attack Theatre Presents Cello Diary

No alt text provided for this image

We are excited to share the first installment of a virtual dance-making exploration from our friends at Attack Theatre called Cello Diary

This process began in collaboration with cellist and composer, Dave Eggar. Attack Theatre asked Dave to create five musical thoughts and brought them to Attack  Theatre dancers to generate movement inspired from these solo cello works. From there we took to social media to ask our friends to share three-word descriptions of their day. The music and these word phrases formed the basis of our movement investigation. The resulting video is our diary from the first days in isolation...our Cello Diary - Episode One.
