Downtown Dallas, Inc., was invited recently to brief a City Council committee on the progress of our strategic?360 Plan?implementation for Downtown Dallas.

DDI's President & CEO Jennifer Scripps and Vice President of Planning & Policy Evan Sheets covered a wide range of topics in the organization's first briefing since the City Council approved the updated plan in 2017:

  • Overview of how the original 2011 plan and 2017 update, both endorsed by the City Council, came to be
  • The vision for a Complete & Connected City Center and progress updates on our three transformative strategies
  • Advance urban mobility
  • Build complete neighborhoods
  • Promote great placemaking
  • A look ahead to potential 2024 bond priorities for Downtown

The council members had overwhelmingly positive feedback for the DDI team, including praise for the 360 Plan process and implementation as a model that should be replicated throughout the City.

DDI's State of the Downtown Market

DDI's recent State of the Market presentation,?linked here , was led by DDI's Evan Sheets and Doug Prude. They highlighted several aspects of Downtown’s growth over the past couple of years. Key data points include:

  • In 2022, Downtown averaged?50,000 more employees per week?between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on weekdays over the same period in 2021.
  • Of the nearly 10,000 apartment units in Downtown,?90% were occupied at the end of 2022.
  • Downtown hotel occupancy averaged 59.6% in 2022, and continues to trend upward through the first quarter of 2023.

Dallas is seeing a stabilized market across sectors after more than two years of uncertainty.?New office trends and consumer habits have settled into a steady pattern. Downtown has proven itself to be a draw for workers and companies seeking a vibrant, amenity-rich experience seldom replicated in the region.?
