The Downside of Hunger & Thirst:- Donald Trump & Black Preachers
Over the last few days I'm amazed at how much hunger and thirst there is in the world and the body of Christ. So many are very hungry and not just for food. I see people everyday on my daily commutes asking for coins in order to just eat. I give them something every time with a grateful and thankful heart. I hate that this kind of poverty exists inside one of the most advanced nations in the world. I hate reading about the need for clear drinking water. These things should never be. As a preacher of the gospel I am very aware of our job to help alleviate these kinds of things. I wanna see it all eradicated. Now. Today. Help us do that at XCEL by clicking here.
The heart of what I wanna write about is what we've seen in the news this week concerning Donald Trump and black preachers. It's been bonkers. Endorsements that weren't endorsements. 100+ preachers in the room vs. 50 preachers. Somebody straight out lied. People saying that Trump is a"one hell of an executive" even though he lacked substance on issues facing black America. It hit me like a ton of bricks. Black preachers have given up on feeding people in the black community. All of the pie-in-the-sky prosperity preaching has finally failed us. Even the preachers know it's bogus now. I think it just became too hard for them to look at the failed state of black communities...... empty churches, foreclosed homes, tripled unemployment rates, police brutality, decreasing wealth, deferred dreams and loss of self worth. These preachers showed their desperation this week. They ran after money. They ran to Donald Trump for answers. Too hungry. Too desperate. That speaks volumes, especially when you're supposed to be representing heaven's wishes. All of a sudden Donald Trump is your hope for a better day? The bible that you preach is no longer any good? I gotta admit that when it comes to PRAISING GOD, no community really gets it going like the black community. BUT, when it comes to EXECUTING scripture, we're light years behind. Black preachers have been content with that. They've eaten off of and fleeced the sheep to the point that no longer is there anything else to get. The cash is gone. The saints are broke and broken. The desires of leaders for the nicest cars, biggest houses, freshest suits, biggest churches and life centers have depleted God's people. New sources of cash are needed. That's the context of what set things up for this collision with Mammon, I mean Trump. #FlatOut.
That's what sustained hunger and thirst does. It slowly robs you of your ability to reason. What do you do when the sheep are hungry? You feed them. What do you do when the shepherds are hungrier? You find a new shepherd. As hard as that is for people to digest, it's true. It's time for us to seek out a new kind of leadership. Principled. Rooted in feeding sound doctrine. Scriptural priority. Leaders that want inner change versus entertainment. This week, some greedy shepherds showed us their hearts and just how desperate they are. How religion has taken it's toll on them. Hopefully they'll get back to making a relationship with God priority again AFTER they repent for seeking the false gods of commerce over the true and living God. My heart goes out to the congregations entrusted to them. They've gotta be hungry because their shepherds are really lost, visionless and misguided.
My hope is that God will bring new leadership to the body of Christ that makes a relationship with him priority. Fresh everything. Perspective. Approach. Activism. Justice. Entrepreneurship. Commerce. Jesus again. Prayer again. Proper approaches to money. C.R.E.A.M [Christ Rules Everything Around Me) needs to hit dead center in the heart of the black church again.
