As organizational consultants, we know firsthand the challenges companies face today’s fast-paced, AI-driven world. The acceleration of the market and the rise of artificial intelligence are changing the business landscape, and the psychological impact on employees is often overlooked.
Before you download The Convergence, we wanted to provide some ideas of how you, as a change leader, can start navigating these turbulent times and help your teams succeed.
The Pressure Cooker of Acceleration
We feel like we’re living in a pressure cooker, and the heat keeps rising. That’s how many employees feel today. Layoffs, increased pressure to work longer hours, constant changes in strategy, and the constant need to adapt to new technologies, processes, and market demands can lead to stress, burnout, and declining job satisfaction. As a change leader, it’s crucial to recognize these signs and take action to promote the well-being of your team.
One of the main causes of this pressure on companies is the fear of falling behind the competition. It’s tempting to jump on every new technology bandwagon or situation. But it's risky in the long run if you’re unaware of how the new situation will affect employees psychologically. How can we deal, as a team, with the new accelerated reality?
The AI Elephant in the Room
Let’s move on to the AI elephant in the room. While AI has the potential to streamline processes and increase efficiency, it can also cause uncertainty and anxiety among the workforce. Will AI replace my job? We hear it all the time. How will it change my role? These are typical concerns that you need to address head-on. The key is to reconsider how your company creates value and makes money. You can’t deal with the new AI reality using the long-known customer-focused approach.
To build a sustainable organization, you require a fresh financial and value-generation framework akin to the innovative approach pioneered by the TriValue Company Model (TVC), which prioritizes customers, company, and workforce wellbeing. We also need to point out AI's opportunities for growth and development, but again, with a focus on strategic sustainability.
Riding the waves of change in today’s world, change is the only constant. Companies mustn’t only deal with the pressures of acceleration and unexpected events that can exponentially impact their operations and the psychological wellbeing of their employees. Economic downturns, disruptive technologies, and the new accelerated reality are just a few examples of the “waves” that can rock the boat.
To weather these storms, you must cultivate a resilience and adaptability culture. Encourage employees to adopt a growth mindset that values experimentation and learning from mistakes. Build strong support networks within your organization where employees feel safe sharing their concerns and ideas, even during disruptive times. Above all, create a company that goes beyond customer focus.
One effective strategy is to use the TriValue Company Model (TVC) to better balance how people make decisions in the company. TVC can provide value by explicitly stating that decisions should always balance Customer, Company, and Workforce well-being value.
Amidst all the chaos, don’t forget the human side of change. People may experience several emotions during accelerated change, from fear and anger to sadness. As a change leader, it’s your job to support and guide them through this emotional rollercoaster.
A crucial aspect is maintaining a healthy culture in which leaders constantly reinforce the company’s mission and vision despite high uncertainty. This involves being transparent about the reasons for change and the expected outcomes, providing regular updates, and constant opportunities for feedback and dialog.
By involving your employees in the change process, you can build trust and get them on board, which reduces resistance and increases the likelihood of success. You can achieve this by establishing a clear social etiquette that allows everyone to build healthy interactions. An excellent framework to help with this transition is the Memorable Learning Experience Model (MLE).
The AI interoperability model
How can you navigate this complex landscape of AI-driven change? This is where the AI interoperability model comes in. It helps you understand AI's interrelationships and its impact on different aspects of your business and society. The model comprises seven domains: people, Organization, Products, Markets, Regulations, Technologies, and AI-to-AI Interactions. By considering these areas, you can develop a holistic approach to AI adoption that considers your team's psychological needs and the broader impact on your business.

The People domain, for example, emphasizes the importance of taking care of safety in the workplace, training and supporting employees so that they can learn new skills and expand their capabilities with the new AI technologies. The aim is also to ensure people have low stress levels in disruptive situations.
The Organization domain highlights the need to align AI adoption with your company’s culture and values. By using the AI interoperability model, you can meet the challenges of market acceleration and AI-driven change with greater clarity and confidence. It provides a roadmap for developing strategies that prioritize employee wellbeing, foster a culture of continuous learning, and drive innovation.
