Down for the Count
My son has been home from school the last few days with a fever. Nothing terrible just enough to keep him from going to classes. Somehow he has the strength to continue playing fortnite, go figure. I was thinking about being down for the count and how that has changed over time.
Remember the days when you could curl up on the couch under a blanket and Mom (mostly) would bring you something warm to drink and easy to eat. She would pamper you and make sure you were okay. It’s something you only appreciate in hindsight. Like nap time.
Now being down means you are still very connected and able to do that all those important tasks such as finalizing your budget, writing that next piece of code or making sure that package gets shipped to the important client. Because not doing so would cause the earth to shift off its axis and we would all perish.
Or maybe not. It’s a badge of honor when we don’t take time off when we are sick. I prefer less people would try for that merit badge. I’ve also noticed younger folks want more balance in their lives. Perhaps we all have something to learn from that. Maybe the next time we are feeling not so well we take that time as a reminder that we all need time to heal; our bodies, mind and soul.
