Discover the groundbreaking exhibition in partnership with the Fleming Collection, which for the first time showcases the Scottish Colourists - SJ Peploe, JD Fergusson, GL Hunter and FCB Cadell - in the context of their European contemporaries, interrogating how this international generation of radical painters forged a new language of colour in the early 20th century.

Located in the centre of Edinburgh, Dovecot is a unique wedding venue for those looking for something a bit different. A former Victorian Bathhouse, and currently one of the only operating tapestry studios in Scotland, Dovecot is an exclusive venue with a maximum of 12 wedding dates available each year. Our verstatile spaces can accommodate 2 to 240 guests and tailored exactly to your style. On the night, meet our events team and sip on some fizz while you explore our beautiful building.

Join us for a talk with Guy Peploe, grandson of Samuel John Peploe, as he discusses the work of the four Colourists, the friendships between Peploe, Fergusson and Cadell, and the work that?The Scottish Gallery undertook in helping to promote the artists. This is a rare opportunity to delve into the work of the Scottish Colourists with a personal, professional and artistic insight.
Guy Peploe will also highlight the new hardback book, The Scottish Colourists, from The Scottish Gallery Press, offering fresh perspectives on the Colourists and their personal association with the artists.

A Century of the Scottish Colourists with Alice Strang

2025 marks a century since the four artists, FC Cadell, JD Fergusson, SJ Peploe, GL Hunter, known as the Scottish Colourists exhibited together as a quartet for the first time in London. Alice Strang, Curator of the National Galleries of Scotland’s series of Scottish Colourist exhibitions, will discuss the ebb and flow of their individual and group reputations in the intervening years, not least in light of their positioning within British art history in The?Scottish Colourists: Radical Perspectives.
