Doug Ford’s PCs softening slightly as favourites at Ontario sportsbooks

utright winner.

Gaming News Canada checked 18 sportsbooks at noon on Tuesday and found only FanDuel and Bet99 have a market on the “sworn in government.” But, there is a marked difference between the odds at both books.

Both have the Progressive Conservatives as the favourites, but Bet99 has them at -1400 and FanDuel has them at -700, followed by the Liberals (FD: +750, Bet99: +900), NDP (+1500 at both books) and Green Party (FD: +3100, Bet99: +3000).

On Feb. 6, FanDuel was the only sportsbook to have a market on the Ontario election. At that time, it had the PCs at -1500 and the Liberals at +1500 with the NDP and Greens the same as today at +1500 and +3100, respectively. That indicates FanDuel is following the general polling trend which shows the Conservatives’ support softening and the Liberals’ support growing.

Interestingly, three sportsbooks (all likely using the same backend software) are now taking bets on which party will win the second-most seats at Queen’s Park, which is an important distinction.

In that market, BetMGM, PartySports and Sports Interaction all have the Liberals favoured at -278, followed by the NDP at +175, the Conservatives at +2000 and the Green Party at +10000. One can broadly assume by that, the PCs are still the favourites of those sportsbooks to win the election. Considering recent polls have them about 10 points ahead of the Liberals, that’s not surprising.

Remember, unlike U.S. sportsbooks, betting on elections is legal in Ontario. Though, most operators are not taking bets on the provincial election, GNC found seven sportsbooks — bet365, Betano, BetVictor, Caesars, DraftKings, PointsBet and theScore BET — taking wagers on federal elections in a number of countries. For example, bet365 has markets for the next federal elections in Canada, the U.S., the UK, Germany, Australia and Sweden.

Celebrating four years of Gaming News Canada

As we mentioned on Tuesday, Gaming News Canada has officially hit its fourth anniversary. For this writer, who only has been helping to produce the newsletter for the last few months, four years seems like an eternity in the ever-shifting sands that is online gambling. So, for Gaming News Canada to not only still be here today, but also be stronger than ever nearly 1,500 days into its tenure is a true testament to the work of a lot of fine people that includes Steve McAllister, Mark Silver, Kevin Kennedyand Mike Day.

Three years ago, the GNC newsletter (then called The Parleh) was essential reading as I tried to get up to speed on the world of online gambling. Today, that education continues through McAllister’s fine Gaming News Canada Show podcast.

Speaking of the GNC show, this week McAllister took time to celebrate four years of covering the Canadian gambling scene with a special show speaking with Mark Silver, the CEO and co-founder of our parent company Parleh Media Group, long-time GNC friend Amanda Brewer of the Canadian Gambling Association, and yours truly.

You can listen to the show via your favourite podcasting app here or watch it here:
