Doubling Down in the Fight Against Cancer
As many of you many know, I had all the symptoms of leukemia when I was born and spent the first 3 1/2 years of my life in and out of Boston’s Children’s Hospital. As a result of that experience in 1962, my parents became founding members of the Upstate New York Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, which is the same chapter that I Chair today. While LLS has persevered through many challenging times these past decades, I’m sure when my parents started this chapter they could not have envisioned the exceptional hardships blood cancer patients would face today from the coronavirus pandemic.
Today I'm reaching out as Co-Chair for the Light the Night walk, one of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) biggest annual fundraising events, to ask for your help. The unwavering mission of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is to find cures for blood cancers and ensure access to the best available treatments for all blood cancer patients. Unfortunately even in the midst of a pandemic, cancer patients aren’t able to put their journey on hold, and now find themselves more vulnerable than ever as their treatments continue amid our current public health crisis. Donations to Light the Night provide critical, lifesaving support to these patients and that’s why this year’s walk will take place virtually in two weeks on Thursday, October 15th.
It is absolutely critical we stay ahead in the fight against cancer. Every dollar and every donation makes a difference in the lives of blood cancer patients. That’s why I’ll be donating $25,000 in matching funds for Light the Night, so together, we can keep driving this mission forward. From now until the Light the Night walk on October 15th, I will match:
1. Four $2,500 sponsorships for the Light the Night walk
2. Any donation of $500 or more up to $15,000 made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
