Double Take: Scott and Byung

Double Take: Scott and Byung

Eikon’s Senior Manager of Talent Acquisition Byung Min Sa is well aware of military veterans' potential to contribute meaningfully to their civilian workplaces. As a veteran of the U.S. Army himself, Byung does his best to ensure that this potential is tapped at Eikon.?

“Every military applicant to Eikon gets a review from our recruiters, and we try our best to determine how a veteran candidate might fit into our organization” says Byung, who served in the Army Reserves for 14 years before completing two tours in Iraq as a Combat Medic, where he reached the rank of Staff Sergeant.?Byung feels Eikon’s innovative spirit and collaborative nature make it an especially attractive workplace for veterans.

“The military teaches you to be scrappy and industrious, and to work well with all sorts of different personalities to achieve critically important outcomes,” he says. “Eikon offers similar opportunities to expand outside of your comfort zone and learn new skills, as well as to form strong working relationships with a diverse range of colleagues.”

Byung, who currently volunteers as a mentor for newly discharged veterans navigating their post-military life and careers, is thankful for the skills and experience he gained in the Army.

“So many of the lessons I learned in the military didn’t kick in until way after I left,” notes Byung. “I’m proud to be a veteran, and I keep my inbox open for other vets who are either looking for the right workplace fit, or just want advice on how to use their military experience in their civilian life.”

To Eikon's Vice President of Operations Scott Bailey , working at Eikon provides a sense of purpose that is in many ways similar to his experience serving as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force.?

“Eikon pushes the boundaries of scientific discovery with the goal of improving patients’ lives. I have the rare opportunity here to work with smart and dedicated people across all levels of the organization, in service of this important goal. This company inspires me with the same sense of?working for a higher purpose that exists in the military community.”

As an Air Force Intelligence Officer, Scott worked with numerous foreign governments and militaries, including the Ukrainian Air Force in Kharkiv as well as multiple governments in South America.

He completed combat pilot training with the Spanish Air Force and led combat mission planning for an F-16 fighter wing. Scott also received the honor of a General Bradley Fellowship at Harvard University.?

As head of Operations at Eikon, Scott leads a department that manages procurement,?supply chain, and operations excellence, as well as the company’s growing facilities and real estate portfolio, which currently includes sites in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City.?

Scott feels that Eikon is an excellent fit for military veterans, both because of the company’s cutting-edge science and engineering capabilities and—more importantly—its commitment to developing new medicines to address unmet medical needs.?
