A Double Edged Sword Called Advertising!
Double edged swords are aplenty!
Knowledge is a?double-edged sword. It can be a powerful tool for?good, but it can also lead us down paths of darkness and corruption.
Technology is a bit of a?double-edged sword. Used right, it's a wonderful tool, but unfortunately, it makes it easier for a lot of mediocre people to get really sub optimal ideas out.
Fame is very much a double-edged sword. It will make one gain status and popularity, but also lose motivation and creativity.
Social media is a double edged sword. The speed, reach, potential of one's articulation can also go down the path of misinterpretation, misuse and FOMO( Fear Of Missing Out).
The vast majority believes that " truth in advertising " is just a mirage. So most quickly jump to the conclusion that all advertising is false advertising. That all companies and marketers use dishonest trickery to lure them into buying a product or service that they don’t need, want or is not what it is portrayed to be.
Most companies take a creative license when marketing or advertising a product. Look at the Whopper ads on an OOH or Print or Mupi and see them in reality. There are several such examples. So, is it the brand's story or the consumer's perception? The jury is out.
Trust in advertising has to be won back. And it is a collective responsibility of all the stakeholders in the fraternity.
