THE DOTSON STORY- The Rise and Fall and Rise Again of American Manufacturing
On Saturday we received our copy of "The Dotson Story" written and catalogued by National certified archivist Brian D. Fors.?
" The Dotson success story is the personification of the American Dream. From humble beginnings over a century ago to being voted by its peers as the best operating foundry in the United States...all this is achieved through professionalism, integrity, management expertise, persistence, and attention to detail."
??- James L. Hesburgh, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Sinto America, Inc.
The book is indeed the history of a remarkable journey of the families who guided the foundry through two world wars, the birth of the labor movement in America, a devastating fire, and economic upheavals.
My biggest takeaway, however, was on the back of a card that Denny Dotson included with the book.?
NEEDS A LEADER MUST FILL
Authority: "Someone's in charge"
Security: "Things will probably turn out OK"
Direction: "Someone knows where we're going"
Vision:?"We know where we're going"
Structure: "Everyone knows where they fit in"
Clarity: "Someone tells us what's expected of us"
Role Model: "We have someone to look up to"
Reassurance:?"Someone's looking after us"
Cohesion: "We're all singing from the same song sheet"
Inspiration: ?"We feel good about what we're doing"
Recognition: "What I do matters"
Uniqueness: "Someone knows me as a person"
We celebrate the Dotson Family for their success and encourage those who wish to be true leaders to follow the example Denny carries with him on his calling card.
