dotCMS Business Source License (BSL)
Today, dotCMS announces a significant shift in its licensing to make the world’s leading universal content management system easier to use for developers, non-profit organizations, digital agencies, and those who simply want to try it out for themselves.
We’ve received feedback from customers, agency partners, and individual developers alike that dotCMS’s previous licensing prevented them from accessing key dotCMS features like Universal Visual Editor, championing dotCMS effectively with their internal teams, and leveraging dotCMS freely for experimental, hobby, and non-profit implementations.
With the adoption of the Business Source License (BSL), a common license found across iconic open-source projects like MariaDB, Terraform, CockroachDB, and others, dotCMS is now source-available and open for free use by developers who want to try out dotCMS in non-production settings and by organizations with less than $5 million in total finances.
That means no more restrictions to use dotCMS’s most innovative features like Universal Visual Editor and no limitations on developers who want to evaluate dotCMS for their own implementations, non-profits who want to use dotCMS for good causes, and small and mid-sized businesses and agencies building on dotCMS.
