Description:

The purpose of this notice is to solicit applications for Stage Two Strengthening Mobility and Revolutionizing Transportation (SMART) grants. Funds for the fiscal year (FY) 2024 SMART Grants Program are to be awarded on a competitive basis to Stage Two awardees in order to implement the plans and prototypes previously developed in Stage One that will advance smart city or community technologies and systems to improve transportation efficiency and safety.

The SMART Grants Program funds multiple technology areas, as listed below. Projects must demonstrate at least one technology area and may demonstrate more than one technology area. USDOT will assess each application on its merits, and there is no expectation that applications demonstrate more than one technology area:

• Coordinated Automation
• Connected Vehicles
• Intelligent, Sensor-Based Infrastructure
• Systems Integration
• Commerce Delivery and Logistics
• Leveraging Use of Innovative Aviation Technology
• Smart Grid
• Smart Technology Traffic Signals

Eligibility:

Eligible applicants for the SMART Grants Program include:

• A State
• A political subdivision of a State
• A federally recognized Tribal government
• A public transit agency or authority
• A public toll authority
• A metropolitan planning organization
• A group of two or more eligible entities
