Dose 16: A Guide for Beginners to Create Your First Ad Campaign

While creating Facebook Ads, you need to check a lot of boxes to make sure you’re doing it right, and this may not seem easy to amateur eyes, but with just a little guidance, anyone can create their first ad campaign with ease. How? Read along in this newsletter.?


Create a Facebook Ads Manager Account

The first step is to create your Facebook Ads Manager account by clicking “Go to Ads Manager” and confirming your information on the ad setup page, after which you need to confirm your payment methods, and you’re good to go.?


Create Your Campaign

Once you’re logged into the ads manager, you can create and name your first campaign on the setup dashboard, where all your campaigns, ads, and their driven results will be mentioned as you go forward with your marketing plan.?

After this, you’ll get the option to choose your campaign objective. This includes about 11 different options, based on the three basic levels of your funnel, i.e. awareness, consideration, and conversion.

Pick Categories, A/B Test & Optimize the Campaign Budget

Once you have a campaign objective, you’ll be directed to select ad categories. Special categories are rarely used, since they’re for specific purposes, i.e. housing/employment opportunities, political or electoral ads, etc.?

After that, you need to decide if you want to run A/B Testing. This can help you experiment with your ad sets and determine which of your ad creatives are performing well and driving the best results. Lastly, you have campaign budget optimization options to let Facebook allot budgets efficiently across your ad sets so that you can get the best results.?


Set Up a Campaign Budget

Once your ad categories are selected, you need to allot a budget for your campaign. In this, you will pick:?

  • Your budget type (lifetime/daily)
  • How much you’ll be spending?
  • The start and end date of the campaign



Select Your Audience & Placements

In this step, you can either create a new audience set or choose a previous one. Since we’re talking about creating the 1st ad campaign, your only choice will be to choose a new audience set from scratch, based on age, gender, likes and dislikes, locations, etc.?

As you’re choosing this, Facebook will provide you data on whether the audience is too large or too small, through an audience definition meter.?

After your target audience is selected, Facebook already has some set parameters they will show your ads on, including the Facebook and Instagram feeds, Video feeds, Marketplace, etc. But you can pick where you want your ads to be shown, though this will have limited options based on the campaign objectives you’ve chosen.??

Set Up Your Ad Format

The final step includes creating your ad by choosing an ad type, an image, and a caption to go with it. You can either select an existing post, create a new one, or use a hub mockup.?

Facebook allows different ad specs to choose from:?

  • Image Ads?
  • Carousel Ads?
  • Video Ads?
  • Collection Ads

When you’re done picking your ad spec, and the image/video to go with it, you can just click Publish and your first ad campaign will be live and visible to your targeted audience.??
