The Dos and Don'ts of UNC

The Dos and Don'ts of UNC

Yesterday morning hundreds of seniors lined up as early as 7:30 am to climb the Morehead-Patterson Bell Tower, a beloved senior year tradition at the 美国北卡罗来纳大学教堂山分校 . As I stood in line with my friends for over 2 hours, we talked about our favorite and funniest UNC memories and made friends with other seniors around us. During our long wait, I had the idea to ask my friends and other seniors the “dos” and “don’ts” of Carolina that they have learned throughout the last 4 years, some more serious than others. I hope you enjoy these small pieces of advice from some soon-to-be graduates! :)

DO – Go to as many basketball games as possible and take advantage of the free UNC athletics tickets while you’re a student.

DON’T – Spend all of your time in the library. It’s probably not worth it.

DO – Take lots of pictures because you’ll love to have the memories to look back on.

DON’T – Take everything so seriously. The small stuff isn’t going to matter in the long run.

DO – Prioritize playtime in the yard. Nothing better than lying in the sun or taking a walk on the first days of spring.

DON’T – Take the little things for granted – like eating in the dining hall or being in a packed Kenan stadium (we didn’t get to do this until sophomore year because of COVID).

DO – Take every opportunity you have to talk about how much you love Carolina.

DON’T – Care so much about what other people think.

DO – Join clubs that allow you to continue your childhood passions, even if you haven’t done them in a while.

DON’T – Stick with a major or minor that you have no passion for.

DO – Start an Instagram for your senior year house and post on it often.

DON’T – Don’t try to sell football or basketball tickets that you won in the lottery, it’s not cool.

DO – Sit on the quad when it’s sunny and take walks around campus and appreciate how pretty it is.

DON’T – Become addicted to Celsius (or any energy drinks).

DO – Play intramural sports.

DON’T – Get too caught up on grades.

DO – Study abroad if you can.

DON’T – Compare your grades, summer internship, or job with your friends.

DO – Go to baseball games at Boshamer Stadium and join clubs.

DON’T – Forget to call your mom and dad.

DO – Have Friday dinners with your roommates.

DON’T – Lose in intramural sports.

DO: Your assignments on time.

DON’T: Skip a Tuesday night at He’s Not Here when the weather is warm.

Would love to hear what you think are the “Do’s” and “Don’ts” of UNC, comment them below!
