DO’S AND DON’TS FOR SEPTEMBER ACCA EXAMS
The September exams are near and I am sure, whether you are re-appearing or appearing for the first time, there are a few pointers that I give my students as an ACCA trainer at London School of Business and Certified Accountants, India, to prepare better for examination.
. MOBILES!! – It is the worst enemy for any student, especially a student of esteemed professional course such as ACCA. You CANNOT study with your phone on. You need to either turn it off or turn it over to parents or someone you know wouldn’t succumb to your request of using it. You’ll see a HUGE difference once you study this way.
· SURROUNDINGS- It plays an important role to gain concentration. Find a surrounding which suits you at a personal level. It might be different for different people. For example, I cannot study if it’s too quiet. So I usually put on my headphones and listen to calming music, which makes my concentration high. But this might not be true for everyone.
· PRACTICE QUESTIONS – Attempt the practice questions only after completely understanding the text and the concept. Do not read the answer of a question first, and then attempt it yourself. This will not help you uncover your faults and mistakes.
· STUDY TIMING- Decide and settle on a timing, which suits you and is the time when you are most attentive. Some students prefer to study late nights, because of little to no distractions. However , I personally cant study at night. Instead I used to wake up early to study.
· SCHEDULE- make a schedule in respect of the subjects and chapters to be done in a day or a week and stick to it. Try to make a schedule that is practical and doable.
· MOCK TESTS- Solve a few mock tests along with previous past papers in order to gain confidence. Try to make the same surroundings and conditions as they are in an examination hall. This will help you gain confidence and be better prepared.
· DON’T BE TOO OVERWHELMED – Don’t panic or get too overwhelmed after taking a look at the syllabus. Just be calm and compose. Plan accordingly and have faith in yourself.
· DO NOT PROCRASTINATE- The “Mondays” never come. Do what you got to do from today itself instead of postponing it to another date, day or time.
AT THE END OF THE DAY, IT ALL COMES DOWN TO SELF-BELIEF. BE CONFIDENT.
