The “Do’s” and “Don’ts” checklist of a good merchandiser
Sampling - Do’s
1. Send samples on time
2. Send samples with correct construction
3. Always check samples details before sending (e.g. materials, labelling, sample tags, measurement, workmanship)
4. Send sample to the correct person and address
5. Suggestions for technician for saving cost and options to hit target price
6. Provide suggestions for fitting, design to produce a nice sample
7. Correct quantity of sample. Samples to be in correct size, color as customer request
8. In the case that the factory uses substitute materials for sample, put a remark to give customer a heads up
9. Evaluate sample and put remark to show comments on samples
10. Remind customer of the due date for sample approval in order to meet time & action calendar for sample approval/production
11. Suggestion for making samples to ensure quality in bulk production
12. Negotiate free samples for customer if there are orders
13. Proactive communication with customer to report sample status
Sampling - Don’ts (Avoid doing)
- Avoid delay in sample deadline
2. Avoid incorrect construction, color shading, poor workmanship, missing material
3. Avoid attention to wrong person
4. Avoid sending samples with incorrect size & quantity
5. Avoid insisting on own idea and not listening to buyer
6. Avoid having surcharge on samples
