As speakers, our voice is our most valuable tool. Prioritizing self-care ensures our voice remains strong and clear. Many of the tips and tools I learnt as a singer and vocalist to maintain vocal health and enhance performance, applies to speakers as well.
Here are my top 3 tips that you can apply right away to ensure your vocal health remains in tip top shape! ??
1. Mind Your Diet: What you consume affects your voice. Avoid dairy products before speaking, as they create mucus and throat congestion. Spicy foods can cause acid reflux, irritating your vocal cords. Opt for light, non-acidic foods that are easy to digest.
2. Stay Hydrated: Drinking water is crucial, but temperature matters. Ice-cold drinks constrict your vocal cords, while boiling hot beverages can cause burns. Lukewarm water is perfect for keeping your vocal cords hydrated and flexible.
3. Avoid Caffeine and Alcohol: Both dehydrate and dry out your vocal cords. Choose herbal teas or water with a splash of lemon instead.
By incorporating these simple self-care practices, you can protect your voice and ensure your best performance every time.
