Recently, I came across a fascinating book, "Dopamine Detox" by Thibaut Meurisse, which I believe is a must-read for everyone navigating today’s highly distracting and fast-paced world. The book sheds light on how we unknowingly get addicted to our surroundings, fall into habitual patterns, and eventually become trapped in a vicious cycle.
The constant flood of social media notifications, online games, emails, and updates from various platforms has not only hijacked our thought processes but also created significant hurdles in achieving our long-term goals.
Dopamine, a crucial chemical in our brain, plays a key role in forming these habits. Our brain, acting "smartly," gets influenced by these stimuli without us even noticing. While technology is undoubtedly a blessing when used wisely, it can quickly become a curse when we allow ourselves to become addicted to it.
Here’s how it works: Suppose you're in the middle of an important task. After a few minutes or hours, your mind suggests you take a break to refresh yourself—maybe grab a cup of coffee or scroll through YouTube videos. At this point, your brain releases dopamine, giving you temporary pleasure and a sense of excitement. However, this feeling is short-lived and lacks true fulfillment, often leading to procrastination and delaying your critical work.
Social media platforms, with their smart algorithms, repeatedly show you content you’ve previously engaged with. While this can save time in finding your areas of interest, it also wastes significant time and energy by drawing you into a loop of mindless consumption without any productive outcome.

Have you ever recalled, in the morning, what you stayed up late watching the night before? Often, it was something of no real value to you.
If you find yourself in this phase, where unproductive activities dominate your day and your brain constantly guides you in the wrong direction, it’s time to detox your dopamine.
I highly recommend this book, as it provides practical strategies to reduce overstimulation, regain control of your mind, and break free from these addictive cycles. It’s especially valuable for today’s youth and children, who are at higher risk of falling into this dopamine-driven trap.
