Doomsday Prepping
I only shared this with close friends before…?
Before I enlisted in the army as an infantry officer, I experienced a week-long series of — what I can only describe as — Premonitions.
So vivid, and worrying, were those visions in my mind — that from that week on, I’ve been preparing for a range of doomsday scenarios.? Some people call them ‘end-time events’, and some others call them ‘apocalyptic’.?
Some friends took me seriously.? Some were visibly avoiding the thought of doomsday-type scenarios in our lifetime.? This was pre-9/11, pre-Covid19.
Inadvertently, I found myself in a small community of ‘Preppers’ just over 10 years ago… though we’ve since disbanded. ?
I’ve learned that it takes a significant global event — for people to start paying close attention to some wayside thinking.
I was a homeschooling parent before Covid-19; and when the pandemic broke out, everyone suddenly knew what homeschooling was.? There’s a TV series called ‘Doomsday Preppers’, and when it aired, it had a similar effect — people paid some attention... But I believe it deserves way more attention.?
It’s easy, however, even for a Prepper, to get complacent.?
With all the prepping work from long before, I found it easy to navigate some of Life’s turbulence… The Covid pandemic, for example, was relatively easy to deal with, because we were already stocked up, already remote-work-ready, and already homeschooling.

Today, I picked up a book at the airport just before my flight — and it provided a sober nudge to resume prepping.? Nouriel Roubini 's Megathreats is - what I believe - a vital reading for all of us, especially those with young children.
What were unexplainable ‘flashes’ in my mind throughout my week-long ‘premonition’ — are explained in vivid detail in Roubini’s book. ?
I speed-read the book on my flight.? I listed some things that need a meaningful amount of work — including making the right investments (no, not just in AI; but other means of production); and reviewing again the possible ‘doomsday’ scenarios that remain in my blindside, and for which I don’t have a plan for initial response.? I might start a forum to discuss this topic (ok, it’s simply a chat group that agrees to discuss this topic in a productive and efficient manner).?
Getting started (again) on prepping, doesn’t feel like a mere ‘1% Better’ type of task.? It’s a significant undertaking that could expand into days of work.? Stay tuned perhaps — for this theme (prepping) to emerge in future newsletter articles.
I have many friends who’ve subscribed to this newsletter.? Thank you for being with me on this journey.? Today’s article might have been an unexpected deviation from the usual focus on productivity and personal development.? I did not expect it.? But I certainly do expect that we will encounter a number of Megathreats in our lifetime.?
But, what’s the worst that could happen from prepping well?
Heads we win. Tails we don’t lose.?

1 年Give your life to Jesus. He is coming again in the end times and in Him we will be saved. Saying that having the knowledge to prep is not a bad thing. But the main thing is about your soul and salvation is far more important than prepping for the physical world that is going to end.
A friend just messaged me, saying: “Think there might be a no-internet no communication scenario sometime in the future” He’s probably kidding. But now I’m really worried ??
